National Center for Learning Disabilities

The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) works to ensure that the nation's 15 million children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities have every opportunity to succeed in school, work and life.

NCLD provides essential information to parents, professionals and individuals with learning disabilities, promotes research and programs to foster effective learning and advocates for policies to protect and strengthen educational rights and opportunities.

Since its beginning, NCLD has been led by passionate and devoted parents committed to creating better outcomes for children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities.

Recognition and Response Activities
The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) has been an active member of the steering committee for the Recognition and Response initiative since its inception, working closely with leadership at the Tremaine Foundation and with national and state program partners. NCLD’s accomplishments have included:

• Providing expertise and feedback to program partners on the Recognition and Response research synthesis report
• Featuring the Recognition and Response model at state and national conferences
• Designing and building a Recognition and Response Web site
• Engaging experts to provide core content for this new Web site
• Engaging in marketing and outreach activities to public audiences and to targeted communities within the early care, general education and special education communities
• Collaborating with research partners on the creation of the Recognition & Response Observation and Rating Scales (RRORS), an observation tool in development for use by early childhood teachers to identify children who may be at risk for future learning difficulties.
